So anyways I was looking at my page and I realized that no one has commented me... at all for the entire month!! This makes me cry inside. You do realize that you all have ripped my heart out and lit it on fire right? Oh well. No one cares.

I was just sitting there and eating my Wendy's Classic Double Cheeseburger and I looked across the parking lot and saw this: I never got it till now!! Oh well, that's the big news in my life... Ok byebye!

Therein Lies the Answer

K so this is my disclaimer... I know that this sounds all depressing but read in between the lines and you'll see that it is actually an expression of hope. So uh yeah you don't have to get all worried or anything like that.
-Chris

I walk upon the leaves and cement
the air is as cold as the heart that beats inside me
I am fading like the lines on the road
Am I questioning, am I lacking?
I know the point of it all but what is the point of now?
.
Lights blur around this paper
places to go... people to see...
purposes at the heels of the beams
following the road ahead
.
I fill no footsteps though the path before me has been walked before
I stir no dust, I float above it all
I know that I am uncommitted
yet I know what lies behind the door before me
.
It is life, It is life with a future
it is life with a purpose and drive
Am I coping with my own indecision or just afraid of what I may become?
.
I don't want to age yet I feel strange in my youth,
I feel like a high school kid all over again, torn between two worlds
.
this is the point of it all
the point is to question
because if you don't you are never really sure and will float again
I am grounded in my questions
I am not blind and dumb
I believe because I ask, not because I am content
I am content not to know yet may die before I now the answer
I understand the point of that.
help me to understand my point now
I want to do more than ask questions,
I want to have faith
therein lies the answer
therein lies the question

Deep Thought (like by Jack Handy)

I think that we should make shirts that have facts that would be helpful to everybody printed on them, like "Honey Bunches of Oats get soggy really fast."

what else should they say?

So I Guess Baptists Really Can Rock

Hmm... I find weird things at 2am... here is a really weird thing that I love. David Crowder... you know "oh Praise Him!!" that David Crowder, is the music pastor of University Baptist Church which is a Southern Baptist Church in Waco TX... I also find it funny that my church is a Southern Baptist church.... Does that mean I am allowed to rock out like David Crowder and get away with it... hmm...

Come & Listen

Ps 66:16-20

Come and listen, all you who fear God; let me tell you what he has done for me.

I cried out to him with my mouth; his praise was on my tongue. If I had cherished sin in my heart, the Lord would not have listened; but God has surely listened and heard my voice in prayer. Praise be to God, who has not rejected my prayer or withheld his love from me!

Come and Listen
David Crowder

Come and listen
come to the waters edge all you who know and fear the Lord
Come and listen come to the waters edge all You who are thirsty come

Let me tell you what He has done for me
Let me tell you what He has done for me
He has done for you, he has done for us

Come and listen come and listen to what He has done
Come and listen, come and listen to what He has done

Praise our God for He is good

He has done for me
He has done for you
He has done for us

Praise Habit

I just finished reading "PRAISE HABIT, Finding God in Sunsets and Sushi" by David Crowder. Just to express how much I love this book I will tell you that I bought it on Friday and finished it on Tuesday. (A small feat but quite uncanny for a non-reader such as myself) I encourage all to read it. I would explain more but I must go do my homework.

Just Thinkin'

I am sitting here picking out songs for Sunday morning ("hymns") and listening to (loudly) Number One Gun, and Thousand Foot Krutch. I realized that God is so cool. I am planning songs for a service with music that is hundreds of years old while listening to stuff that has the same passion for God yet only a few months old. I just love how all encompassing and transcendent God really is. I am friends with people that I wouldn't give the time of day to (vice-versa) because of their love for God and it is friggin' sweet. Ok, just a random thought. Peace

If Paradise Only Had Elevators

Hey guys, I found these here and thought they were awesome!!! Also, check out the link. I confess I actually listen to my girlfriend's CD more than she does. What a friggin' loser! Doesn't the title of this post sound like some kind of emo band's album name?

How to Beat Elevator Boredom

1) When there's only one other person in the elevator, tap them on the shoulder and then pretend it wasn't you.

2) Push the buttons and pretend they give you a shock. Smile, and go back for more.

3) Ask if you can push the button for other people, but push the wrong ones.

4) Call the Psychic Hotline from your cell phone and ask if
they know what floor your on.

5) Hold the doors open and say your waiting for a friend. After a while, let the doors close, and say, "Hi Gregg. How's your day been?"

6) Drop a pen and wait until someone goes to pick it up, then scream, "That's mine!"

7) Bring a camera and take pictures of everyone in the elevator.

8) Move your desk into the elevator and whenever anyone gets on, ask if they have an appointment.

9) Lay down the twister mat and ask people if they would like to play.

10) Leave a box in the corner, and when someone gets on, ask them if they can hear ticking.

11) Pretend you are a flight attendant and review emergency procedures and exits with the passengers.

12) Ask, "Did you feel that?"

13) Stand really close to someone, sniffing them occasionally.

14) When the doors close, announce to the others, "It's okay, don't panic, they open again!"

15) Swat at flies that don't exist.

16) Call out, "Group Hug!" and then enforce it.

17) Grimace painfully while smacking your forehead and muttering, "Shut up, all of you, just shut up!"

18) Crack open your briefcase or purse, and while peering inside, ask, "Got enough air in there?"
19) Stand silently and motionless in the corner, facing the wall, without getting off.

20) Stare at another passenger for a while, then announce in horror, "Your one of THEM!" and back away slowly.

21) Wear a puppet on your hand and use it to talk to the
other passengers.

22) Listen to the elevator walls with your stethoscope.

23) Make explosion noises when anyone presses a button.

24) Stare, grinning at another passenger for a while, then announce, "I have new socks on".

Our Own Burdens to Bear

Well, here we are a few days until the Fall '05 semester and I just got a hardcore burden put on me. My church has a small but strong college group already and we do an awesome weekly bible study and have our own fun events.

Perhaps we should go back...

For a bit of a history lesson about a few months ago it was put on my heart to minister to others. To stop hiding behind a guitar or music stand and start to disciple myself and those with "a little less experience" than me, whatever that means. I have been struggling with just how to do that in a more specific sense.

So... here's the deal. Just the other day someone requested for us (my church) to begin some sort of an outreach for the unsaved and sort of a believers 101 for college age people like myself.

Seems like a no-brainer right?

Not really. You see, I already feel so over-committed and stretched between ministries and work and school and... everything! I don't know if God's will is for me to start something myself, to pray for something to come along, or to just not do anything. (I'm pretty sure it's not the last one)

Whatever it is please pray along with me. I need all the help I can get.

In other news:

- I put a "guestmap" in my linkbar. Please put a marker on it so I know if anyone actually reads this stuff : )
-Please pray for some people in my church who have lost loved ones.
-Pray for the new school year and students and the various outreaches going on
-I'm sure I forgot many things

Anyway, I hope you all are well. I will post again sooner than you think. P
lease feel free to post prayer requests and comments like always.

Hmm... this is lame

I really wish I could go to sleep right now. I was actually going to post "A Revolutionary Love Part 3" but I realized i left my bible at home for the first time in forever. So with that I'll tell you what I'm doing right now. I am sitting here going on my thirteenth hour at work wishing that I had my Bible so I could post again. Hehe. I hope all is well and I will return soon.

The Love of God

God loved you before you were even born. His arms were around you before you ever knew your mother's embrace. You are in His thoughts a thousand times over. He loves you from the heights and from the depths of His being, His love covers you today and clothes you today. You live in the atmosphere of His love and inhale it with every breath of your spirit.

Promises For the Imperfect

As always I am your resident Number One Gun fan. I just picked up their new album (which is by the way their first big label release) and it is awesome. It's a perfect follow-up to Celebrate Mistakes. These rockin' Chico guys did it again. Check it out. Click the title or listen to the music here. I guess I'm not that good of a fan because apparently they were in town and I had no clue. Oh well life goes on.

A Revolutionary Love (Part2)

What up Y'all! Did I just say "Y'all"? Yup, I guess I did.
.
There's no point in apologizing for taking so long, I'm just going to take forever for the next post again anyway. But that's ok.
.
When I began to write the previous post, I really didn't know where I would end up. Why do you think it took so long to start writing again. But God has a way of showing his revelations to us. Imagine that. Anyhoo, time to get down like James Brown and get to what I'm here for.
.
Just know I really am not ending my last post. I just have more to say. I'm getting there, don't worry. This is just a transition to the end I suppose.
.
When I last left off I was talking about being a clanging cymbal, our Christian walks becoming nothing but pointless noise in the background life.
.
Who's life? The lives of those who don't know, who don't believe, who aren't saved. Instead of being so-called Christian radicals or fundamentalists, we should be focused on the calling of God. We are not here to make sure that the ten commandments stay on a wall in a church. How many people do you think really paid any attention to them anyway? We are called to be radicals for Christ. We are to be focused on the life and light of God, not the death that this world would have for us. When we focus on the world, we become just like it. If the salt becomes tasteless, what good is it but to be trampled under the feet of men. Who wants salt that has no flavor. If we become exactly like the world, without compassion, cold, and hateful, who would want what we have?
.
If we focus on the darkness of this world, we do not illuminate it. We are to illuminate the truth of the word of God. Only the Word can cause the darkness to be overwhelmed.

A Revolutionary Love (Part1)

I am back!!!

kind of...

What up everybody! I found a way around the funkiness of my blog. So... here we go.

I was driving along on the west end of Chico (A sort of run down part of town and where all the college students live) some time ago and saw a gigantic billboard with huge white words among a black background that read:

"if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your
sins."
- Jesus

What kind of witness is that to a dying world of who Christ is? Come on! Who had the gall to think that this would make more people come to church? If you had no clue who Christ was and were going along one day and read this sign, what would you think? Not only does it come off cold and heartless, but they took it completely out of context as well. The scripture they are quoting is from John 8:24. In this part Jesus is speaking to the Pharisees (mega-religious Jews, the ones that wanted to kill Him) in the treasury and they are asking who he was (he had already told them before) He was telling them how they were of this world and he was not and how Him and the Father were one. He was speaking to the ones who knew the law of God, the "church leaders" if you will. The Pharisees were more into the religion of their time than the relationship that God had wanted of them. They could not see beyond the words of the law. They forgot that the law had meaning as well. Verse 52 of chapter 8 reads... " if anyone keeps of My word, he will never taste of death. "

It seems at times we Christians can get so caught up on our little "crusades" we almost forget about anything else but whether or not xyz will do abc. Or if xyz can marry xyz. We forget the great commission and what Jesus has taught us to do. We picket clinics, rally around court buildings, we just have to buy that sticker for our car so people will know exactly what we think, we determine who should be "allowed" in our little church by how good they are, and we put up stupid billboards that basically say "YOU SUCK, I DON'T -GOD" Maybe it is because above all of these things we forget that Jesus said in John 13:

"...A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another..."
In 1 Corinthians 13 Paul writes:
"...If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but do not have love, I have become a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prohecy, and know all mysteries and all knowledge; and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. And if I give all my possessions to feed the poor, and if I surrender my body to be burned, but do not have love, it profits me nothing...."
Check out the first verse: "...just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples..." God tells us that people will know that we are His by our love for one another. What we show on this earth is what others perceive our faith to be about. Are the teachings of Jesus Christ those of the cold-hearted or of the compassionate? We could protest things until we are blue in the face but Paul reminds us that if we do not have love, we are a clanging cymbal. We become nothing but white noise in the background of life... More to come soon.
